CARG project

The Department of Earth Sciences contributes to the CARG project for a new geological map of Italy at the scale 1:50,000, by overseeing the creation of several geological sheets. Some sheets have already been published, while others are under preparation or at the stage of surveying.

CARG is a national project coordinated by the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) and implemented by Regions and Autonomous Provinces, universities and research centres operating under ad-hoc agreements.

The goal of the project is to create 652 geological and geothematic sheets on a scale of 1:50,000, covering the entire area of Italy.

Up until 2011, 255 geological sheets had already been completed and included in the CARG project.
